Corruption inuplift projects No action taken against officials

A report on the embezzlement of million of rupees corruption and irregularities in water and sewerage, education, health, fishing and forest projects during the tenure of Fazl-i-Hussain, Secretary buildings Northern Areas, has been released by the Ministry of Northern Areas and Kashmir Division.The report prepared by a commission in Northern Areas reveals that millions of rupees were embezzled under development projects during the year 2006-07. The report authenticated by the then chief secretary Northern Areas was presented to the minister for Northern Areas and Kashmir Affairs on May 24, 2007 for action against the responsible officials.However, no action has been taken against the responsible persons due to their influence in the bureaucracy.The report says that as many as 41 projects were completed without following procedures, PC-1, standard and engineering rules. In many of the projects money was paid to contractors in advance who left the projects incomplete after paying bribes to the officers concerned.It says that projects worth millions of rupees were contracted out to favourites without floating tenders and following other rules which caused loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
