GILGIT: The future of thousands of students in Gilgit-Baltistan is in danger due to acute shortage of teachers in all government schools of the region. There was a need of about 2,000 teachers and the education department of the region had sent a summary seeking appointment of the required teachers on an urgent basis but due to non-clearance by the finance division only 450 teachers were recruited recently.Besides, the condition in all the government schools is deteriorating. Wherever school buildings have been constructed they lack other facilities and the students are compelled to sit on the floor due to lack of benches. Many schools have no boundary walls and other facilities like drinking water, etc. Apart from missing facilities, standard of education is also falling. The authorities of the education department are equally to blame for the sorry state of affairs in the educational institutions. The people have called upon the government to appoint teachers and provide all required facilities in the schools to ensure provision of education for the children of those who cannot send their wards to private schools due to exorbitant fees.
