ISLAMABAD: In a very positive move, Japan has declared Gilgit-Baltistan safe for tourists and also softened its advisory on the region. Officials said the decision to soften the advisory for intending tourists to the Northern Areas was taken by the government of Japan after receiving a report from its embassy in Islamabad. It may be recalled that the embassy officials had visited the region and surveyed the situation before sending the report to Tokyo. The report said the region was peaceful and safe for the tourists. It said the region should not be mixed up with tribal areas of Pakistan where militants were at war with the Pakistani troops. It recommended that Japanese tourists may go to Gilgit-Baltistan without any fear of law and order and enjoy the scenic beauty and hospitality of the people.
