Thousands of trout fish found dead

Weekly Bang-e-Sahar Saturday, May—June 6, 2008

KHURMANG: Thousands of trout fish have been found dead in the channels of the local power houses due to apathy of the fisheries department officials. With the start of summer season, water level in all the streams here has risen and with it the trout fish have started moving down from the natural lakes in the upper areas. But due to lack of efficient measures and interest of the authorities concerned, the species are dying after reaching the channels and reservoirs built for a large number of power houses. The government has still not visualized any policy to protect this treasure abundantly found in the waters of various villages in the area. The activities of the fisheries department have been confined to holding of meetings and seminars in air-conditioned rooms.—Agha Askari
