Tax on property transfer opposed

GILGIT: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Northern Areas senior leader and member Legislative Assembly Aftab Haider Advocate has termed the 2.5 per cent tax on transfer of inherited property totally unlawful and an injustice with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He assured the peoplethat the issue had been raised at the assembly and the tax would be abolished through legislation. He said it was injustice with the people to impose tax on transfer of property from a father to his children. He said the decision had sent a wave of shock among the poor people who were already hard hit by inflation. He said they condemned this unlawful and unjustified tax and would their role in its abolition. The PPP leader also hoped that in line with the decision of federal minister Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, army personnel would be withdrawn from civilian institutions of Gilgit-Baltistan soon.
