ABBOTTABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on May 11 issued 14 licences for opening FM radios in different cities of the country. However, there was no licence for the whole region of Gilgit-Baltistan. Other cities of the country have already scores of FM radio stations but there is none in Gilgit city. The FM radio stations are playing vital role in development of the areas and promoting awareness of socio-economic condition and culture of a city. Besides they also provide entertainment facilities to the people. As Gilgit-Baltistan has been denied its other basic rights, the people are justified to demand for opening of a chain of FM radio stations in the region. People of the region have demanded that besides FM radio station a TV station should also be set up in the area.
