Gilgit: The People’s Lawyers Forum has criticized the federal government for sending incompetent and inefficient officials to Gilgit-Baltistan as a punishment, which was causing irreparable damage to the administrative structure of the region.
In a joint statement the forum president, Amjad Husain Advocate, and Bazir Ahmed Advocate called upon the government to revise its policy about the Northern Areas. They regretted that the government had made the region a haven of incompetent and inefficient employees without considering its negative effects on the working of the public institutions. They said this was also leading to law and order situation in the area. They aid local officials should be imparted proper training and posted in the area, so that they would deal with local issues effectively.
They warned that if the government did not change its policy, other departments would also experience the fate of works, education, health, planning and tourism departments.
They also pointed out that some officials remained posted in their departments even after retirement which was causing resentment among the junior staff and affecting the working of the organizations. They said without proper changes in its existing policy the government would never be able to ensure good governance in the region.
